Housesteads Fort (Vercovicium) is in a very wind-blown position on the edge of the Whin Sill escarpment. It was one of the twelve permanent forts built along the Wall. It follows the standard plan and includes the headquarters building, the commandant's house, a hospital, granaries, barracks, a late small bath house and latrines.
Please excuse my map - it's an indication only and not intended to be accurate.
