The public entrance to the East Gardens (Higashi-Gyoen) is just through Otemon Gate and is open every day except Mondays and Fridays and on special occasions. The Ninomaru gardens are best seen when the Azaleas are in flower or during the Iris season in June.
They are very popular as a lunch place for the office workers working nearby and I am sure that the koi in the pond get very fat from all the scraps. It is also a popular place for local photographers taking closeup pictures of the flora and fauna.
