Philipsburg on Great Bay is the capital and is guarded by Fort Amsterdam on the point overlooking the bay.
Great Bay is where most of the Cruise Liners dock when spending the day in Sint Maarten. Philipsburg is often as far as the passengers get in their day trip from the ships so the beach is lined with bars and unbrellas and the main shopping street (Front Street) is lined with duty free jewellery stores.
It's also the place where I have found a bar that I recognise - I do spend most of my time in planes so Air Lekkerbek appealed.
