Yorkshire doesn't exist any more. It was broken up in 1974 when the new
local authority boundaries were put in place. Prior to that, Yorkshire was one
county; divided into three ridings and the Ainsty of York (the city of York itself).
The closest thing left are the four Ceremonial counties. The East Riding stayed
much as it was. The North Riding moved south, gained York and became North Yorkshire.
The West Riding became partially West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire with the rest
subsumed into North Yorkshire, Lancashire and Humberside. I guess there was a reason.
Anyway, there is still a lot to see in what used to be Yorkshire.
