The Yomei-mon Gate itself was carved in a Chinese style with lots of scenes of Chinese sages, children, dragons etc. in small groups under the eaves of the black lacquer and gilded overhangs.
The guardians of the shrine were also heavily gilded but still very lifelike. The screens around them were very elaborate carvings but were left white.
The Shanjinko panels on each side were also very decorated.
