Naples sits on the coast in the shadow of Vesuvius and is both an industrial and tourist
city. The harbour forms the stage of a natural amphitheatre and the city balances on the hills
around it. Cruise ships, ferries and fishing boats nestle together, balanced by the cars, buses,
coaches and motor bikes dancing round each other on the roads.
Walking from the harbour past the Castel Nuovo, through the Galleria Umberto I, to the Piazza del
Plebiscito outside the Royal Palace and down to the Via Fransesco Caracciolo to sit under the
trees and watch the world go by is a great way of spending
a lazy sunny day. But don't let the sights distract you from the Museo Nazionale.
