Segontium from the air (as shown on the Cadw display board at Segontium)

Only the foundations of Segontium still sit on top of the hill in Caernarfon. It was built in AD 77 when the Roman Governor Gnaeus Julius Agricola conquered the native Celtic Ordovices Tribe. It was built to house an Auxiliary Regiment of 1000 men and was occupied until the end of the 5th Century.
