The Weald & Downland Museum Arundel Castle Herstmonceaux Castle Mermaid St, Rye The Terrace, Battle Abbey

Sussex is bounded on the north by Surrey, east by Kent, south by the English Channel, and west by Hampshire. It includes much of the undulating countryside of the the Weald and the South Downs and a significant part of the Channel coast.
The last successful invasion of England took place in 1066, when the Normans overran King Harold's army near Hastings, on a site now marked by Battle Abbey. Invading Romans and Normans between them left behind the mosaic-filled Fishbourne Palace and Bignor Villa, and a number of castles including Arundel, Bodiam, Hastings, Herstmonceux, Lewes and Pevensey. More recent landmarks include the Royal Pavilion at Brighton and the sea fronts at Bexhill-on-Sea, Bognor Regis, Eastbourne, Brighton and Hove, Hastings and Rye.
