East London was once the home of the world’s largest trading port with docks both north and south of the river. Most of the docks were heavily bombed during the war and the area has been redeveloped recently as you can see from these photographs.

Further down river is Greenwich, the home of the Old Royal Naval College the Royal Observatory and the prime meridian.
