West from the City of London is the commercial heart of modern London (by modern I mean from about 1750 onwards). This includes the major shopping areas of Oxford Street, Regent Street, Kensington, Knightsbridge and Chelsea; the Theatre District and Covent Garden; Trafalgar Square; the Houses of Parliament; and of course the palaces (Buckingham Palace, St James Palace and Kensington Palace).
