The Rumeli Fortress; built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1452 prior to the conquest of Istanbul, was also good. It was built to prevent the Byzantine fleet sailing through the Bosphorus. 1000 master craftsmen working together with 2000 workers completed the castle in a short period of four months. The Ottoman military and administration at all levels including also the Sultan worked non-stop to finish the fortress.
