Asclepeium was the sacrarium to vitality and medicine. The temple was
dedicated to Asclepius, the god of healing. It had the reputation of curing
all who were treated here (mainly becuase it had a method for turning down
anyone expected to die). Its treatments were a combination of faith healing,
autosuggestion and contemporary medicines. Much of the "autosuggestion" was
reputed to take place under the influence of opiates.
