The plentiful rainfall makes this a beautiful lush and green
Caribbean island but the hurricanes seem to be attracted to Dominica almost as
often as the tourists are.
In 1999 Hurricane Lenny causes widespread damage, then in 2004 an earthquake
damaged buildings in the north of the island. The latest hurricane (Dean) in
2007 wiped out 99% of the banana crop.
Yet the virgin rain forest soon fights back and makes the island as beautiful
as ever.
